I've been listening to Happier Hour by Cassie Holmes. She talks about the concept of being "time-poor" if we do not have more than 2 hours of time each day to spend on things that we find important, including our family and friends.

My smartphone tells me I am not time poor! But I think I will start keeping a time diary again. I did it for many years, even when I did not have to, because I found the data very insightful. There were some things that seemed like they took more time, but the time log showed they didn’t and other things that I didn’t realize were taking up my time.

Did you know that:

  • People greatly over-estimate their time spent on work activities.

  • The Executive Time Use Project found that the average CEO spends 52 hours/week on work activities

  • Most research shows that productivity declines significantly after 50 hours work/week

Start keeping a time diary. You may be surprised with what you learn from this data!

Enjoy the rest of your holidays and happy New Year!
